Adopt a Student

What is Adopt A Student?

Student Design Teams need your support to gain the experience that will position them above the rest. Logistic costs often are the heaviest burden that every design team must endure to reach their respective competition or service learning trip. This is where the Missouri S&T tradition of excellence is put to the test against top peer institutions, showcasing our continuous ability to succeed in competitions and represent Missouri S&T around the globe.

AAVG designs, fabricates, and flies a heavy-lift RC aircraft. At the SAE Aero Design Competition, student teams are tested on their design and the aircraft's ability to carry a specified weight of cargo. Last year, the team expanded into rocketry with the boosted dart competition against Iowa State. This year the team is competing in the 2008 NASA USLI competion to design a rocket and scientific payload to launch to an altitude of one mile. The team needs your support more than ever to keep both projects going. Help us take off.

Concrete Canoe Team designs, manufactures and competitively races a full-sized canoe constructed entirely of concrete. The purpose of the team is not only to build, display and operate an unorthodox watercraft, but to develop in each student the skills and non-classroom experiences that will better prepare them for successful careers. Help support the concrete canoe team by adopting one of their members.

Engineers Without Borders(EWB) became part of the SDELC in 2006 as a service learning team. EWB-USA is a non-profit humanitarian organization established to partner with developing communities worldwide in order to improve their quality of life. Missouri S&T became the first Missouri chapter in 2004 and is currently joined by over 100 Universities. EWB travels to remote locations around the world to learn about the problems the local people face and come back to Missouri S&T to develop a strategy for corrective measures. Lend EWB and the people they help a hand by adopting a team member so that they can keep helping people around the world.

Formula SAE designs and builds a custom car each year and races against teams from all around the world. The team finished 47th and 23rd at Detroit and West Competition respectively. Mechanical issues kept the team from placing higher at each competition. The team has worked hard this past year to build a better car and needs your support. The Team is going to 3 competitions this year and needs your support.

This past year the Human Powered Vehicle team won the ASME East Coast Human Powered Vehicle for the sixth straight year. The team has worked hard to keep their title on the east coast and was able to gain the title on the west coast as well, becoming the first team ever to have both titles in the year. Help keep this winning tradition going by supporting a team member.

In their first appearance since the 1980´s, Missouri S&T Mini Baja Team competed in the SAE Automotive Engineers' Baja Midwest competition. The team are tasked to design and build an off-road vehicle that will survive the severe punishment of rough terrain. Last year, the team placed 35th overall with a first place finish in the mud bog. Baja SAE needs your help to reach to the top.

Missouri S&T Robotics Competition Team designs, builds, and runs their robot in the Intelligent Ground Vehicle Competition(IGVC). Integrating advanced designs and technology, the Missouri S&T Robotics Team was able to pass all of the qualification tests, a feat that only half of the teams are able to do, and then make it to finals. Support this hard working team by adopting a student.
With Toyota sponsoring the North American Solar Challenge, the Solar Car Team is working hard on Solar Miner VI. The competition has several new design challenges this year and needs your support to make this race a success. Help the Solar Car team keep on going by adopting a team member today.
The goal of the Missouri S&T Solar House team is to design, build, and operate the most attractive, effective, and energy-efficient solar-powered house. Then transport it to Washington, D.C. for the Solar Decathlon. The team is getting started on the 2009 house and needs your support to get rolling.  Support the Solar House team by adopting a student today.
The Steel Bridge Team is comprised of undergraduate civil engineering students who must work together as a whole through three different phases: design & testing, fabrication, and finally the competitive assembly against teams from other schools on both the regional and national levels. Help the team learn valuble professional and leadership skills by adopting a team member.
