What is the Student Design and Experiential Learning Center?

The Student Design and Experiential Learning Center is the new, official name for the former Student Design Competition Center. The new name represents the larger role that the Center will play on the Missouri S&T campus. During the 2004-05 academic year, the Center received approximately $240,000 in new state funds to support the design team competitions and increase experiential learning activities in courses at Missouri S&T.

What is Experiential Learning?

Experiential learning offers a more complete learning environment for all types of learners than the traditional lecture format. Anyone involved on a student design team knows that is true. What the 'Experiential Learning' part of the Center does is develop and make available more 'hands-on' elements for use in traditional lecture courses. In balancing the theory with the concrete experience, we expect to engage students more fully in their courses and ultimately produce graduates that are equally versed in the concrete and theoretical aspects of their discipline.
