Rise above the mud.

Miner Baja racing team provides students with an experience that simulates industry. Our
team's inclusive culture encourages students to have fun while learning about both design
and manufacturing.

What Do We Do?

We design and fabricate an off-road vehicle from the ground up and then race it in a
competition hosted by the Society of Automotive Engineers against dozens of other
universities from around the world.

Where Do You Fit In?

Our team accepts all majors, even non-engineering majors!

The team is directed and run by students so joining the team means you get to pick what
you want to do. We have 5 different sub-teams (Suspension, Drivetrain, Composites,
Controls, and Electronics) where you can follow your projects from design all the way to
testing. Members are encouraged to join any projects they are interested and it’s common
for members to move around in what sub-teams they participate in.

We hold our general meetings every Monday at 7PM in Toomey 295, open to everyone, even
those not on the team. The first few weeks of the fall semester will include our introductory
meetings, but we soon get into the work that follows us all the way through the spring
semester. Sub-teams have their own meetings, Baja has shop meetings every Friday and
Saturdays and we fit drive days in wherever we can. The best thing about our team is that
everyone gets to drive the baja car!

What Will You Gain?

Members develop skills in design, fabrication, leadership, communication, and finance.
Students will have the opportunity to develop specialized technical skills, such as welding,
machining, engineering drawings, and modeling with computer software.

What Sets Us Apart?

We provide a very realistic experience for engineering students who are interested in
design, manufacturing or business. Our team is favored by industry for producing students
with practical experience. The knowledge gained, combined with a team culture that
teaches students how to work in a professional, teamwork-driven environment, results in
well-rounded graduates. Additionally, the team promotes creating a balance between
academics and the team so that our members can be truly successful.

Have a Question?

We would love to hear from you! If you have any questions about our team, team expectations, or how to join, please contact us at baja@mst.edu.
